The Terry Police Department has a new camera surveillance system in an effort to detour crime.
The town has two solar-powered blue light cameras at both ends of Cunningham Street as part of the department’s crime surveillance center. The system is sponsored by Wilson Technology.
“I think this will be a crime-fighting tool for us, not that we have a lot of crime here, but the idea is to keep it out, so having these blue light cameras is a great tool for us,” said Terry Police Chief Anthony Moore.
The chief said they wanted to put them in their business district, which sees a lot of traffic.
“The blue lights come on from dusk until dawn. The cameras are running 24 hours a day,” Moore said.
The city plans to install six or seven additional cameras throughout the city in the near future.
